The Hive Health Expands Orthopedic Services with New Director of Trauma Initiatives, Dr. Gregory Schmeling

Milwaukee, WI – October 1, 2024 – The Hive Health is proud to announce the expansion of its Orthopedic Services team with the appointment of Dr. Gregory Schmeling, MD, FAAOS, FACS, ABOS, as the new Director of Trauma Initiatives. With over 34 years of experience in orthopedic trauma surgery and academic education, Dr. Schmeling brings a wealth of knowledge, clinical expertise, and leadership to the organization.

Dr. Schmeling is a board-certified orthopedic trauma surgeon who has dedicated his career to treating complex musculoskeletal trauma, including complications such as malunion, nonunion, and infection. He currently serves as a Professor and Vice Chairman of the Academic Division in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He has trained over 165 orthopedic surgeons, medical students, and allied health professionals since 1990, shaping the next generation of orthopedic care providers.

As Director of Trauma Initiatives at The Hive Health, Dr. Schmeling will lead the trauma services department, focusing on the continued advancement of patient care and the integration of innovative treatment approaches. His extensive experience in Level 1 trauma care and his national and international contributions to the field will significantly strengthen The Hive Health’s trauma services.

Dr. Schmeling, who grew up in the Milwaukee area, holds a B.S. from Marquette University and an M.D. from the University of Wisconsin. He is a member of several prestigious professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA), the AO Alumni Association, AO North America, the Wisconsin Orthopaedic Association, and the Medical Examining Board of Wisconsin.
